Sigh! Well, some of you know I work in the public arena and very often get the occasion of people who feel the need to unburden their political fantasies on me. The latest propaganda yarn spinning around in the vacant, doldrums between the ears of the FOX Noise enthusiasts is that nobody wants to work because they are all getting “free money”. This is the third comment like this I received in the last couple of weeks. “Free money” Wow. “Where do they get that?” I asked. “From the socialist government!” they reply. “Uh huh. Are you referring to the $1400 stimulus package they offered last year?” They don’t know. They just know they are getting money from the “socialist government”, so they don’t need to work. Huh!
Well, I know this much, … unless you’re an expat living in Nicaragua, $1400 won’t pay an average month rent for most people, especially in Austin. And I don’t know about you, but I had to show my tax returns to even qualify for that, so it was technically MY MONEY, not the government’s. One of them was a rancher who can’t get the “illegal Mexicans” to work for him anymore because they’re getting all that free money as well. Uh Huh!
In case anyone runs into this kind of blatherdom, remind them that besides the “big beautiful wall”, and the caged children, with some State exceptions, (many Red states, I might add, not the federal government), non-citizens entering the United States after August 22, 1996, (ya know, during the socialist, Bill Clinton era) the date of enactment of the welfare reform legislation, are not eligible for most welfare benefits, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), SSI, Medicaid, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), let alone “free money”, until they have been in the U.S. for at least five years and are legally documented. So, there’s that. If anyone out there knows where I can get this “free money” please let me know how I can get in on it. Much appreciated.
